A detached retina can occur when the film that rests against the inside back of the wall of the eye, or the retina, leaves a standard position and separates from the wall. The retina takes what you see through your eyes and transmits it to the brain your optic nerve, making the images that you actually see. The retina is a light-sensitive tissue that is vital when it comes to a person’s vision. If the retina becomes detached, it becomes pulled away from the back of the eye, creating serious and drastic vision loss. If this condition is left untreated, your retina will die, resulting in a permanent loss of vision.
