About Dr. Malkani

Sunil M. Malkani, M.D., is the founder and director of the Malkani Retina Center. Dr. Malkani is a retinal surgeon specializing in the treatment of macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and other diseases of the retina. He’s a graduate of the Wake Forest School of Medicine and is a former assistant professor of ophthalmology at the University of Florida. His expertise is particular to treating diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, epiretinal members, retinal detachments, macular holes, and other diseases of the retina. Dr. Malkani has had his work and research published in ophthalmic journals, and he’s presented his work at national conferences. His research and publications include:

  • Investigator for rhuFab V@ (Genentech) in the treatment of macular degeneration
  • Investigator for Immusol Phase II Clinical Trial of VIT 100 in the prevention of PVR following retinal detachment surgery

Dr. Malkani’s professional affiliations include: American Medical Association, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Lee County Medical Association, Collier County Medical Association, Florida Medical Association. He was previously the chief resident at the University of South Carolina Department of Ophthalmology and he received honors in ophthalmology and ophthalmic research from the Wake Forest University School of Medicine.

About Your Visit

Dr. Malkani and the staff at Malkani Retina Center share a common mission to provide the most up-to-date medical and surgical care in a compassionate, patient-focused environment. Upon arrival at the office, our warm and friendly staff will greet you and assist you with your paperwork. Please bring your photo ID, your insurance card and a list of medications you currently take. Your eyes will be dilated for your exam, which might result in blurred vision and sensitivity to light for several hours after the exam. We recommend that you have someone drive you to and from your appointment.

You can download and begin filling out our patient information form and health history form prior to your visit. Malkani Retina Center accepts most insurances and health plans. We ask that you be prepared to pay your portion at the time that surgical services are performed. We accept many payment forms, including cash and money orders, personal checks, and major credit cards.
